ABOUT LYNNA

Lynna grew up in a small town in West Virginia.  Following WVU, she began working for the U.S. Navy (first as a contractor then as a civil servant).  From 2000 until 2009, she lived in San Diego, CA and in Phoenix, AZ.    At the age of 31 and with two children, she moved to Charlotte to attend law school.  During law school she found opportunities to gain legal experience at midsized law firms, Duke Energy, Safe Alliance, the Mecklenburg County DA's office, CFCR, and in legal clinics. She represented her school in an International Moot Competition in South Africa and with her partner, winning the competition based on South African law.  She graduated first in her law school class after 2 1/2 years in December 2011.

Lynna started Moen Legal Counsel in July 2012 while at the same time, working as a Fellow for Safe Alliance.  She was on the criminal court appointed list and practiced family law and then transitioned to primarily practicing family law.  Since 2012, she represents litigants in District Court from simply temporary child support hearings to complex Equitable Distribution multi-day trials.   She was certified as a Collaborative Family Law attorney in 2013, a Parent Coordinator in 2017, and a Certified Family Financial Mediator in 2018.  She is regularly appointed by judges to act as a Parent Coordinator and Guardian Ad Litem and is selected by other attorneys or appointed by judges to mediate as a Certified Family Financial Mediator.

Lynna primarily practices in Mecklenburg County and has practiced across eight counties in North Carolina and in the North Carolina Court of Appeals.   She has a reputation for being direct, friendly, smart, and practical.

She has two children, a Sophomore at the University of South Carolina studying Nursing and a Sophomore at Myers Park High School.  She was raised with her two brother by a teacher and a civil servant.  She comes from a long line of veterans, teachers, and civil servants, although she is the first attorney in her family.  Growing up, she began volunteering at a young age after Hurricane Andrew in 1992 through her church. That experience spurred a passion for helping those in need.  She was appointed in 2020 to the North Carolina Bar Association,  Pro Bono Committee where she sits on the CLE Committee.  She is on the Mecklenburg County Bar Legal Referral Service Committee. She volunteers for the Moore and Van Allen Human Trafficking Project, the U.S. State Department Child Abduction Group, Safe Alliance, and has represented Servicemembers who were unable to appear after a case has been filed against them.

Lynna Moen is seeking the District Court Judge seat vacated by Judge Kimberly Best's appointment to Superior Court.
